Blackpool has always had comedy and spoken word in its DNA — from Albert and the Lion to Blackpool Belle, and from iconic voices to groundbreaking wordsmiths like Graham Nash, Jon Robb, and Robert Smith.
Open Up The Mic is here to uncover and develop the next generation of writers and performers.
Whether you’re brand new or already scribbling lines and grabbing the mic, this course is a chance to:
Find your voice
Build confidence
Turn ideas into performance
What’s involved?
🎤 Two days of workshops every half term
🎭 One-to-one sessions with professional actors, comedians, and backstage technicians
🌟 A live open mic performance in a real venue
We explore humour as:
Social commentary
A mental health coping tool
A powerful way to own space and speak up
You’ll also hear from industry professionals — onstage and behind the scenes — sharing insider knowledge about creative careers and performance life.
You might be a writer.
An actor.
A clown.
Or someone who’s never tried this before.
This is a professional, supportive space to try things out, mess about, learn fast, and see what’s possible.
Above all, it’s fun — a chance to meet new people, laugh together, and help grow Blackpool’s local creative scene.
